There’s no such thing as a painkiller.
Nothing can kill pain. If there truly was something that could kill pain, all we’d have to do is take it once and we’d never feel pain ever again. Because we would have killed pain. But you and I know that’s not possible. Nobody and nothing can kill pain.
Pain is here to stay. You can’t change that. What you can do though, is ask yourself what lessons the pain is teaching you.
When you do this, you’ll realise that pain visits you to help you. It forces you to change your perspective, rearrange your priorities and do the things you would never have done voluntarily.
Pain exists to grow you. To sculpt you into the person you’re supposed to be.
When we’re faced with something we find uncomfortable or distasteful, it’s tempting to reach for something that will numb the pain.
That’s why so many of us are addicted to procrastination. We hope that by promising ourselves that we’ll do something tomorrow, we can avoid the discomfort of having to disrupt our lives and do it right now.
Does procrastination kill the pain? No. Because nothing can kill pain.
What about drugs? TV? Overeating? They just divert our attention from the uncomfortable situations, decisions & conversations that will in reality help us grow.
Stop trying to kill pain. Ask yourself what lesson it’s teaching you. Then take that lesson and build a life you adore.
