You Need to Focus if You Want To Live

We live in an age of mass distraction. A million things compete for your attention from the moment you wake up to the time you go to bed. Family, friends, careers, colleagues, bosses, text messages, emails,Facebook, blogs, forums etc. all scream out to you for your attention and most importantly, your time.

Important Principle: When you give your time to any person or spend time in any avenue, you are in reality devoting mental energy in that direction. An abundance of mental energy is what gives us a cheerful, optimistic outlook on the world in the morning and a sadder, more tired outlook in the evening is caused by a depletion of this energy.

To lead a great life, to surpass the boundaries of mediocrity, to start noticing progress in your life, you owe it to yourself to start focusing better. The greatest individuals in any field have mastered the art of shutting out the distractions and focusing solely on the task at hand.

As technology becomes more intertwined with our lives, we are facing a battle now more than ever before, to preserve our sense of focus. Giving in to distraction has become so commonplace that only the select few among us who manage to stay focused are able to lead truly extraordinary lives.

You will never have everything you want, but don’t let the things you don’t have distract you from leading a fulfilling life.

3 Tips to Cultivate a Powerful Sense of Focus

1. Don’t waste time and energy on matters that don’t concern you. This will enable you to focus on the issues that really matter. Also, focus on the things you can control as opposed to those you can’t.

2. Spend at least 5 full minutes each day in total silence with no distractions. It may be difficult in the beginning but eventually your mind will grow accustomed to the silence and your ability to focus will grow stronger.

3.  Be exceptionally clear about what you want your life to stand for (Most people can’t list the top 10 things they want to achieve before they die). At the end of each day ask yourself how much closer you’ve come to you dreams. Too many people will spend a large portion of their lives chasing things they ‘think’ they want…to add more life & time to your days keep your goals crystal clear.
